John Nichols, who co-hosted the RadioNation broadcasts from Seattle and has written about the events for the magazine, responds:

>This is kind of a sad commentary. I was in the Direct Action headquarters
>weeks before the WTO sessions began and they not only knew who Mike Dolan
>was, they were meeting with him. Additionally, I saw Dolan defend the
>Direct Action folks in a heated argument with the mayor and the police
>chief. I also heard him -- in press conference appearances and in radio
>interviews -- give the Direct Action folks credit for forcing issues to the
>forefront. I think there was enough success in Seattle for everyone to take
>a measure of credit. But mine seems to be a minority view. Tragically, I
>have even heard Direct Action folks attacking the Eugene Anarchists recently.
>When all is said and done, I am sure that all the backbiting is making the
>folks in Geneva rest a little easier -- suggesting, as it does, that the
>left does not even know how to claim victory.
