I believe Chomsky also reviewed Herrnstein(?) and Murray's earlier work. Chomsky makes the point that to even enter into the discussion is to adopt racist assumptions. He makes this point in (inter alia) *Language and Problems of Knowledge*, essentially a set of lectures he gave in Managua (which is available on tape from Amazon and highly recommended for change of pace commuting air fare).
