Texas Lege

There are no end of Texas Lege stories. About 1982, Martin from Longview got elected as State Rep on a Creation Science platform. That's ok in Texas, whatever convinces the folks back home is good enough, but if you are a genuine idiot, the other reps don't give you any good committees. So, Martin twiddled his thumbs on the back bench.

Now that's a problem, because if you can't show *any* accomplishment back home, you're not going to be in the Lege for long.

So, Martin talked his cousin into shooting him (shotgun loaded with birdshot I think), then Martin claimed that fanatic evolutionists had tried to assassinate him.

It didn't work. And he perjured himself to the Lege looking into the case. He was permitted to resign without prosecution.

Jim Schutze reported this one in the old Dallas Times-Herald.
