The World Economic Forum opened its annual predators ball in Davo, Switzerland
yersterday (Januray 28.1999).  Last years conventional wisdom was that 1998 was
going to be the year of recovery for the Aisan cirses.  Apparently, this years
theme is goning to be: who is to be balmed.  Washington has selected Japan. A
verbal missile was launced by Smmers at the Japanese for dragging its feet in
puuting its financial house in order. Jeffrey Sachs was quoted as saying: "The
(US) Treasury and the IMF have driven a large part of the developingg world into
recession."  He could have added that they are driving some of his friend at
Harvard to jail.
Krugman is for capital control and is blaming the rich nationals as much as global
hot capital.
The EU is expected to tout the promise of the euro.
There is a general poverty of ideas among global capitalism's shakers and movers
and gurus.
May be LBO should send Davo an e-mail of ideas, assuming the Left has some.
