max, after reading the numerous posts from the invaluable zaginflatch (a digest of posts from an ex-yu list), I can only say that this distinction is not really a plausible one. many of the young men on the list had gone into hiding or were sitting there terrified of the time they would be called up. at least one of those called up was sent to Kosovo, and since has spent time in 'psychiatric care'. as far as I know, at least one group of soldiers went AWOL to return home. resistance took place during the war amongst the soldiers of Yugoslavia. there is no evidence I have, otoh, of resistance amongst the soldiers of NATO countries, though I doubt we would have heard about it.
