Uh, no. Looks like I touched a hot button.

I was referring to the welfare debates, where I've perceived gross inconsistency in the perception of women whose support is welfare, and those whose support is Social Security or privately financed alimony or child support.

As to women getting alimony vs. those who don't need it or those who are married, I couldn't say. My only clue as to social stigma in this vein stems from class. Women who divorce tend to move down in terms of income/ wealth class, alimony/child support notwithstanding.
