White supremacy has a history (though not, in my view, a very long one: I would say that its full flowering only began on July 4, 1776).

You might consider the colonization of the Americas by the Spanish. It's hard to see what "full flowering" of racism might be if not that. And then the British, and the Dutch, and the French. There is no U.S. monopoly. I doubt that any serious claim could be made that the US is "more racist" than these societies. In today's France, the wearing of the (moslem) veil to public schools is still a political issue. -gn.
