I was confused by Doug's quote from Foucault because I
couldn't figure out which French king was murdered in 1757.
So I looked it up. It was an assassination attempt.
Damien stabbed Louis XV with a knife.
Foucault's description sounds like the execution of
Ravaillac for the assassination of Henri IV. I guess that
by Louis XV's time, the Samson family was no longer so
skilled?
In those days when the State was pissed at you it let you
know it.
