Modest proposal to end the war

The problem with the modest proposal is that it is too modest.

The most radical legislative measures in our recent history were passed during the Nixon years. I don't think that he was counting votes so much as feeling that he had to accomodate people in the streets.

Again, during the new deal, I think that those in power were fearful of a socialist movement. I would love to see a green movement in power [Not a Nato loving green regime], but I don't think that a fear of losing an election would turn the dems around.

I suspect that if we were in the streets demanding change, Clinton would have spoken well for our causes -- he will coddle up to anybody that looks threatening.
