That's the old Yale, before admissions director "Inky" Clark turned it into a meritocracy. I doubt he knew it, but Inky took his cue from a footnote in Capital vol. 3, where Marx says the better a ruling class is able to incorporate the leaders of the subordinate classes, the more solid and dangerous its rule.
Besides, George W was a "legacy" candidate, the offspring of at least two generations of Yalies. His grandfather, Sen. Prescott Bush helped Yale rebuild downtown New Haven using federal "urban renewal" money, which meant destroying lots of houses and building highways and a shopping mall.
