Well, we have gone after Mister Dees and his cohorts in the post-Silverstein era. But that's somewhat beside the point.

Doug did, after all, invite that bearded devil Ron Arnold on to his radio show, where they had a nice chat about the relative virtues of Habermas and Marx. I don't think Doug was frightened of Ron. But afterwards Ron told me that he was scared of Doug. "That guy's got the most materialist view of society I've ever encountered."

As for all populists being nationalists, as someone emphatically proclaimed--Well, that's bullshit. At least the populists I know from Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Wyoming. Their vision doesn't extend much beyond the county line. That's why they call themselves the County Rights Movement (among other appellations.)--jsc
