Last night at our county fed meeting the delegate from an old line local manufacturing corporation told us about the projected job losses at his workplace. The company he works for is moving jobs south and then ultimately out of the country. The estimated job losses locally are between 1/3 and 1/2 of the workforce. This workforce is represented by one of the other big industrial unions.
This situation is another real break with tradition, because the corporation in question has always had a very positive, community spirited almost Swedish attitude toward its workforce. The corporation is also making money and these moves are being made to maximize profits by seeking cheap labor.
