There seems to be a right wing dominance in certain "trades," the Prison Guards for one as you mention can be thugs, fascists, unaccountable to the public. The LA Police Dept. for another, has thwarted attempts at citizen oversight much needed to curb unwarranted police shootings like the killing of a 105 pound mentally disabled woman who they claim threatened them with a screwdriver.

Today's LA Times ran a story about left-right divisions in one trade union in Sweden that you may find of interest. Seems the right wing element got an elected seat on the board, some other members protested, and the right wing element killed one protester:
