Apparently, college presidents are being compensated more and more like corporate CEOs now a days which is no doubt reflective of the fact that they are generally picked on the basis of their talents as fundraisers who can look after their institutions' bottom lines. I guess the day is long gone when college presidents were picked on the basis of their contributions to scholarship or on their academic visions. Veblen would not have been surprised.
