Charles: One paradigm of evolution comes from Darwin. He noticed that humans "designed" their domesticated plants and animals over generations by selecting certain traits and controlling the breeding of those plants and animals, so as to create breeds with the traits. He then drew the analogy that nature similarly selects traits or "designs" natural species through the struggle for existence. So, he called it natural selection. But he didn't believe in god or anything, so it is not really a design skill of a conscious being.
