i guess now would be the time to remind people that by most estimates, the
east timorese population numbered around 1 million. but as i said
before, i'm a little astonished that people think talking about sheer
numbers of deaths is ever the index that would and could decide a political
position or an analysis. but i guess propagandism reigns over analysis.
i'm still waiting for that analysis, btw, beyond the empty rhetorical
posturing.
btw, amin rais has just been elected as chair of the indonesian assembly,
and there are moves afoot to establish a coalition between the muslim
parties and golkar (the ex-ruling party). whether they have the numbers
without some splits from megawati's party to form govt is perhaps doubtful;
but it remains to be seen.
