Saddam invaded Kuwait because -- justified or not -- he thought the U.S.
would look the other way in the interests of a strong Iraq to balance Iran.
But he could not possibly have thought the same thing about invading Saudi.
Saddam may sometimes miscalculate but he is not totally out to lunch.
