Rock 'n 'roll and Chrisitan fundamentalism are both products of the same Southern culture. One is the dialectical opposite of the other. Rock 'n 'roll celebrates everything that the bible thumpers condemn and vice versa. And like other kinds of dialectical pairings there is also a dialectical interpenetration between the two. One of course thinks of the rock 'n'roller Jerry Lee Lewis and his preacher cousin Jimmy Swaggart and how Swaggart fell prey to the same sorts of temptations for which rock 'n 'rollers are condemned for.
