Dear Friends,
The grassroots movement to protect microradio across the country over the last decade has been an extraordinary one, and culminated in the FCC recently passing historic regulations to protect micro. The fight was muscular, and hard-won. Corporate broadcasters were not happy about it, and took the battle to congress. The news below represents the first blow from congress to undo the FCC regulations. And for those NPR lovers out there, NPR sided with the corporate media. Further, the title of the bill is double-speak. This in no way represents the preservation of radio. Please call your senators and ask them to vote the measure down. Let community radio live...

>What seemed highly improbable a couple of months ago has happened:
>Yesterday, the House passed the anti-low power FM bill known as the "Radio
>Preservation Act." The vote was 274-110, with Republicans voting as a solid
>block for the bill, along with about 1/3 of the Democrats.

>The batle now shifts to the Senate with bill S2068, introduced by Gregg
>Judd of NH. The bill currently has 26 co-sponsors, including such august

>Congress will be breaking from April 15 until Monday, May 1, during which

>I urge you to make sure your senators will NOT vote
