What are you counting as quotes? Quotes from other posts, or published material from elsewhere forwarded to the list?

Doug

Good point. I count as quotes any quoted material from another post, or any web-accessible post. The latter is because some websites are subscription only (e.g., Chronicle of higher Ed) or simply a massive pain to enter (e.g., the NYT, which I can enter only if I'm using the right computer, in which the cookies are stored, and if the website is actually working right that day).

I'm doing this because I haven't yet seen a post which needs to have several pages quoted in order to make a proper reply, and things which are accessible from the web really don't need to be posted in their entirety. I have a standing offer to e-mail articles to those who are web-blocked, which nobody has taken up yet, leading me to believe that web-accessible articles are accessible to all posters here.

Please note that I'm (generally) only kvetching about 10 or more screens of quotes, which is 240 lines for my mailreader. If there has been a post which required that many lines of quoting to reply to, I haven't seen it yet.

Sincerely,

Barry
