THOSE FRIENDLY HIDDEN TV MESSAGES FROM YOUR GOVERNMENT The Federal Communications Commission has issued a strong statement criticizing an arrangement by which major TV networks ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox were paid a total of $25 million for surreptitiously including anti-drug messages in the plots of such TV shows as "The Practice," "The Drew Carey Show," and "America's Most Wanted." The money and the messages were provided by White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. FCC sponsorship regulations first formulated in 1927 specify that listeners and viewers "are entitled to know by whom they are being persuaded."
