Pish. Jonathan Swift moaned about this because people used "bus" instead of "omnibus." The mob is taking over. Thousands of good trees were sacrificed to the moans and groans over how the Nazis had debased the German language. The more boring sort of english professor spends most of his/her lunch hours weeping about the decay of language.

Shit. Language is tougher than any state power, than any profession, or than any philosophical school. It simply is non-debasable. A core defense of poetry for about a century (say Flaubert through Ezra Pound and Allen Tate) was that it maintained the health of language. But any language is too tough to need such support.
