source everything in the Third World, jeans start at $22 rather than $60.

Old Navy, which is another division of scumbag Donald Fisher's Gap, just opened a huge new store on Market St. in San Francisco. Never been in, for three reasons, Fisher is a big donor to the GOP, (just saw his name on FEC filings, and on that, a few days before the Ca. primary, Carl Lindner of Chiquita Banana gave 50K to the anti-gay marriage initiative, that just won in a landslide, along with the lock up the juvenile delinquents initiative) that new store always has at least one off duty SFPD cop moonlighting as a guard (what minimum wage rent a cop guards from Burn's too expensive?) and, the two times I've bought jeans from The Gap, they've worn out faster than you can say, "Sucker. " I didn't like it when Levi's closed their plants in Texas, which paid a pretty good wage, but, unless someone knows of a peasant cooperative in Guatemala that makes jeans, guess I'll stick with Levi's.

P.S. How's this for contradictory consciousness, an ex-co-worker who is very active in that anarcho spectacle Burning Man festival in the California desert every year, just started working for The Gap, a few months ago. She's in the back office, gonna work on webpage design, I think. When she left, where I temp, off and on, she was so excited about the salary and benefit package. You could see the boss, twice her age, sorry both to see her leave (she's a hard worker, and a lotta fun, has great taste in music, is friends with Elliott Smith, who is in the depresso singer songwriter genre ala Nick Drake, Will Oldham or Jeff Buckley) and envious that a kid, was gonna make something approaching her salary.
