. . . Is it not possible for truck drivers to appreciate knowledge generated in a univerisity? Why is assumed that ordinary people could never value or understand this - isn't this a rather dim view of truck drivers? cheers, Paul

I think the point is that the contribution of the working class to state-financed higher ed is disproportionate to their benefits, relative to those with higher incomes.

State tax systems tend to be regressive, and public universities admissions are tilted to those w/higher income.
