Credit Agricole to float?

Some people on the list will care about this -- it appears from Reuters
that Cred Ag. is planning on getting itself a stock market quotation, to
let it raise capital and to give it an acquisition currency.  This is big
news for the European banking industry -- on the one hand, it may be the
case that outside shareholders start dictating the direction of Cred Ag
rather than the mutual owners.  On the other hand, CA is the proverbial
sleeping gorilla of European banking -- it's the best managed bank in
Europe, and would be able to moun tbids for pretty much anything it takes a
fancy to, except the Spanish banks which are prob. still a bit pricy.
