The CP in Italy by the and 50's was a social-democratic party with regards to economic transformation in the short to medium term (and perhaps long) even as in their international allegiances they reflected much of the same tendancies of any Euro CP of the day. Bologna and the Emilia-Romagna region also had and has the most extensive co-op system anywhere. That region is still solidly left to the point where one finds "entrepreneurs" who speak fondly of Gramsci et al.-they didnt just vote for efficiency.
