Democracy and socialism

Robin Hahnel (an Econ professor from American University) and Mike Albert (Z
Magazine) developed an economic system called Participatory Economics (the
name of the book, as  well) that is essentially socialist and democratic.
They outline the basic tenets: a workers council and production council who
operate in tandem to ensure an equitable and efficient distribution of
resources, job rotation, payment concomitant with the sacrifices one makes
on the job, decision making power based on the degree to which one is
affected by the outcome, etc.

 
Robin (I presume) devotes a chapter to mathematically proving the systems
efficacy.
