George Herbert Walker Bush named Colin Powell Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff & nominated Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court (and, before that, for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit). Conservative blacks have been very useful for whites who handpicked them, for today's racism is ostensibly color-blind racism (that concentrates attacks on the black working class through the wars on crimes), different from old-school segregationism. The reason why conservatives want to abolish affirmative action is not to eliminate all blacks from high offices & lucrative jobs but to get the government to stop interfering with capital in when, how, & how many blacks to hire, promote, and fire.
