this is usually a bad thing in most other art forms and, without much thought, I can't quite see how it would be a good thing in pornography ... the reverse, if anything.

I'm curious. What do you mean by this? What art forms do you have in mind?

I suspect you have me confused with the author of the latter statement, one Daniel Davies; and given that I, too, am stumped by what he meant, I couldn't satisfy your curiosity.

I'm all in favor of democratizing art forms -- political and social ones, too.
