by the way, norm didn't call it a flame pit. dd did. norm said he found the invective and nsults intimidating to those not schooled in our specialities or politics. true dd, it's not a free carrier, that's made clear in the intro you get when you subscribe. so those who come here looking to stir up crap for the fun of it aren't welcome. however, one of the great things about this list is that there are activists, theorists, non academics, academics, etc mixing it up. he's getting at the tendency to have no patience for those who started out where we were once.
