HAH! i love this one. see, it's another example of a completely different worldview. when reese told me about Godwin's Rule (is that it?) i had never heard of the problem. people *rarely* accuse someone of being a hitler in the same way that it is wielded elsewhere.

1. we don't equate fascism with just any only old totalitarian political system. fine distinctions are made as to what kind they are.

2. we don't think, typically, that fascism (hitler) was the soley the product of a psycho who wanted to take over the planet.

3. fascism we see as the outgrowth of a capitalist system, a response tot he crisis of finance capital. most folks though tend to think it was basically just like communism if not actually a kind of socialism.

so it really wouldn't occur to someone to call someone else a hitler.

the equivalent around here used to be "bourgeois liberal" in terms of when it becomes a thread.
