I decided early in my political development that one goal we did not have to postpone to communism or even early socialism, but we could start to smash it now: We should be able to pretty much smash the concept of deservingness and the practice of rewarding it even under capitalism. This does not mean equality now; it merely means we fight against ever punishing anyone, and rewards are to be seen as nothing more than necessary bribes to get things done. That's the principle of market socialism isn't it?

No one deserves anything, good or bad.
