France wants anti-NATO case stopped http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/europe/newsid_1292000/1292761.stm France has urged the authorities in Belgrade to stop court proceedings against Western leaders accused of war crimes during the 1999 bombing of Yugoslavia.

The case -- which was started by the administration of the former president, Slobodan Milosevic -- was unexpectedly revived last week when a Belgrade court upheld the twenty-year sentences given to fourteen world leaders, among them the French President, Jacques Chirac, and the former US leader, Bill Clinton.

Prosecution lawyers called the move an unavoidable technicality, but correspondents say it has caused embarrassment both in Belgrade and western capitals.
