Rakesh & Reptiles

I noted in an aside that the late and unlamented listmember R. Bhandari had referred to the OAAU as a 'snake pit.'

He sent me a note off-list replete with his standard litany of insults but with the assertion that he had referred to the OAU, not the OAAU. The former is an organization of African heads of state, the latter the organization founded by Malcolm X before his death.

This troubled me because if you can't accurately debunk Rakesh, you shouldn't be getting into political arguments, so I went looking for the posts in the LBO archive (1/99).

He did indeed refer to the OAU as a viper's nest. At the time this outraged me because I thought he was talking about the OAAU. In fact, I attacked him for talking about the *OAAU* and he failed to correct me at the time. Now he has corrected me so I should correct the record. I am not apologizing. He doesn't deserve that much.

His Malcolm X fronting in this week's post is belied by his elaborate, ignorant ravings against Malcolm from the old threads, but they don't deserve rehashing here.

I am now braced for another private fulmination from him, but I did want to withdraw my statement.

That Carowan guy made much more sense.
