Heiner Mueller, Toni Morrison and Can Xue all come to mind. Orwell is not someone I'd cite as a great writer, more of a moralist and stylist than an aesthetic innovator. Interesting, sure, but not in the same class as the other three. My own list of the great artists of the 1950-2000 period:
