http://nepalnews.com/ Government announces liquor restrictions Government Saturday announced stiff restrictions on the naion-wide sale of liquor and not its ban as demanded by a woman's organization affiliated with Maoists.

Liquor sale will be completely banned on the first two days and the last two Saturdays of the Nepali month. Twenty-four years is now the minimum age for drinking while those under 21 cannot sell alcohol.

Only four liquor shops will be allowed in each ward of a municipality and three in each ward of a sub-metropolitian city. Alcohol sale will be permitted only for four hours from 2 PM to 6 PM.

Alcohol sale will not be permitted around religious sites and educational institutions. Liquor advertisements will be banned in radio, television and newspapers. No new licenses will be issued for distilleries and breweries for the next five years.Cabin restaurants will be banned.

The measures will come into effect within 15 days. Home Minister Khum Bahadur Khadka and a three member delegation of the All Nepal Women's Association Revolutionary led by Rekha Sharma hammered out the final agreement, a Home Ministry announcement said.
