Perhaps it's because I know that even when I politely, laboriously tell them about the things people like me experience, they will dismissively ask the same question on another occasion as if what I said counted for nothing.
And I have found that white people who find the notion that there has been a increase in the level of racism it's permissible to express post-s11 to be some controversial assertion requiring affadavits will accept almost nothing as evidence. Either that, or they're trolling and saying things they don't really believe, in which case a serious, long-winded response is inappropriate.
Whatever, really. I didn't come here to redeem anyone, I came to learn, and I do. If you believe "why did you come to the US" and "was it just one asshole on the subway" are reasonable things to say when people discuss US foreign policy or racism, it just proves my point about multicultural solidarity.
