I was suggesting that Chris was using the topic as a political football since he was clearly making claims about a topic--what western feminists think and write about "the veil" -- when he seemed to know nothing about what they are actually writing and thinking. ------------------------

BTW something that seems to have been ellided over with respect to whether or not a particular person involved in this discussion (that is, me) is being inattentive to a certain other persons needs is cultural context. The individual in question is Russian and operates in a Russian social environment. Russian culture is quite sexist, I would guess more so than any Western European country. Men are expected to pay for everything, without question. If you don't you are considered a vicious brute. This naturally enough results in many women dating several people at the same time, none of whom they may actually be interested in or sleeping with, for financial reasons. This can go on for months and months. "Getting some" from a heterosexual male perspective is a social signal that you're not being strung along for money.
