It's important to remember that "At the turn of the last century, its [Argentina's] economy was comparable to that of the United States." This fact points to the significance of the Spanish-American/Filipino-American wars, among other things, in the politico-economic development of the USA. The USA could have been an Argentina, if it hadn't become an Empire. -- Yoshie
