I read today that the XFL pay scale is as follows:
50,000 per year for quarterbacks, 35,000 per year for kickers, and 45,000 per year for all others.
That's all. A far cry from conventional pro sports salaries, but just enough to have the league growing exponentially around the US, provided their standards aren't overly high for players. One could see it being a real draw for a large stratum of males wedded to the pigskin, on both sides of the TV screen.
The unexpectedly 'conventional' salaries mean lower overhead for owner McMahon, not unlike a coffee shop on another scale, when one looks at probable ad revenues. And he was quoted as saying (paraphrasing), "There can never be _too much_ sex," so he'll probably rake it in. Meanwhile, the legislature here in Minnesota is going after Jesse Ventura for his participation, for 'moral' reasons and because he's earning an extra paycheck on the side when he's supposed to be governing, but it may amount to nothing if public opinion polls count for anything.
Reading Maxwell Bodenheim tonight, couldn't care much less about football...
