who spent some time in eastern Germany talking to skinhead/neo-Nazi
youth. She said there are lots of them, and they're scarily full of
hate (for Jews and foreigners, mainly). And it's not just a pose -
they beat people up. She also thought that about 1/3 of the western
German population harbored some degree of sympathy for the Nazis.
Well, you know who is also scary - its the United States. Do you know what percentage of voters in Alabama voted to keep anti-miscegenation language in their constitution three months ago - it was about 42%. And I can't believe that there can be isolated geographical pockets of people who maintain strange beliefs while the people elsewhere don't harbor the same sentiment at all. This country had Pat Buchanan win in a few primaries several years ago. It has Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms in powerful committee head positions in the senate.
