A fine article, but (nitpicker that I am) it's a little too simple to lump together all of Eastern Europe and China. China has a pretty effective developmental state, and Poland, Hungary, Slovenia and the Czechs are putting up a pretty good fight against the neolibs. Romania, Russia and parts of the Chinese interior do qualify for the hardship list. If I was truly devious, I'd even say nice things about the sneaky socialism of the Swiss cantonal bank system, but I'll shut up now.
