It's Official: FBI's Carnivore No More

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) disclosed on Tuesday that 
it has given its controversial "Carnivore" e-mail surveillance software 
a new, more innocuous name, dubbing the program "DCS1000."

 
"With upgrades come new names," FBI spokesperson Paul Bresson told news 
sources. "Had it not been called Carnivore, it probably wouldn't have 
stirred as much controversy."

Bresson admitted that the new moniker "doesn't stand for anything."
