Real Despair

The measure of hope in the U.S. is the percentage of progressive activists and theorists in the United States who have, once and for all, cut all ties with the Democratic Party or any of its candidatesd at any level. in primaries or general elections.

The level of Depair is to be measured by the number of progressive activists who think that somewhere there is at least one Democrat, runing _as_ a Democrat, who should be supported.

Over on the marxism list I have recently carried out a brief struggle around the myth that there exist "divisions" within the U.S. ruling class. Belief in such divisions is another marker of deep despair in disguise. That belief is the chief ground upon which class collaborationism (opportunism, whatever nasty bit of jargon you prefer) fattens. And its chief manifestation is this bizarre belief that anything good, even in the short run, can come from working within or alongside of or in any relation other than utterly committed opposition to the Democratic Party.
