Micheal,

Tony Brown certainly does have some bizarre views of the world. But let's be careful: Insight sometimes comes from strange places.

Read a chapter or
> so, said, jeesh I wasn't a biology major, so I put it aside.

> Rethinking AIDS: The Tragic Cost of Premature Consensus

Well said. And Root-Bernstein is not new ager or conspiracy theorist. This should give pause to some folks on this list who instead of engaging AIDS dissenters with well formulated, tough questions, go into juvenile denunciation mode.

That is certainly true. When I firt picked up the book, the fact that it was published by Regenery gave me major pause. Upon reading, it turned out that Duesberg has what seems to be a libertarian slant, nothing that would deeply affect how he interpreted the scientific evidence itself (or so it seems to me). But it is well worth remembering that different people have different reasons for becoming AIDS dissenters. There are certainly AIDS "dissidents" who are anti-gay, anti-black, anti-technology, anti-modernism, etc. They by no stretch of the imagination constitute anything close to the majority of dissenters but it is these people who non-dissenters point to when they want to denounce all dissent from the standard theory as outrageous and irresponsible. Most of the AIDS dissident are quite apolitical with liberalish overtones--which means that they can sometimes say and do things that can make "leftists" uncomfortable and suspicious.

No doubt. But that only means her interpretation of what she has heard and read is wacky. It does not necessarily mean that her fundamental argument is wrong.

All interesting, Mike, but it does not prove anything except some AIDS dissenters are some very strange people indeed.
