UNIVERSITY PARK, PA-Securities industry professionals from around the world will share up-to-date information and research on emerging business issues that shape the global environment during the upcoming William A. Schreyer Symposium, "The Internet & Global Capital Markets."

The symposium is scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., September 17, 2001, and it is co-sponsored by the Center for Global Business Studies in Penn State's Smeal College of Business and the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.

The symposium will explore issues related to the emergence of the Internet, its impact on the global stock exchanges, related security and payment issues, and will feature the following panels: Current Issues in Market Exchanges; The Role of ECNs; Secure Transactions and The e-Signature; and Open Financial Portals: Implications for the Future.

"Businesses and universities working together to educate executives and students can share their knowledge of the most recent business practices, theories, and research," says Fariborz Ghadar, Director of the Center for Global Business Studies.

The distinguished speakers and panelists will include William A. Schreyer, Chairman Emeritus of Merrill Lynch & Co.; Blake Darcy, CEO of CSFBdirect Inc.; Mikael Edholm, director of Marketing & Strategic Business Development for Ericsson Technology; Baljit Vohra, President & CEO of the Intrados Group; Ray Killian, CEO of ITG; and Thomas P. Vartanian, Managing Partner of Fried, Frank Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.

The symposium takes place on Monday, September 17, at the Conference Center in the B-1 level of the Center for Strategic and International Studies from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The street address is 1800 K.
