Nihil novi sub solem. All that, and more has been studied ad nauseam by the status generalization crowd and cognitive psychologists and sociologists. A much more intersiting question stemming from that research is how different "status cues" (e.g. size C and southern accent) affect the perception. One school of thought is that they are combined by the audience (i.e. lower than size C speaking standard English, but higher than size D speaking with southern accent), another school is that one of the "inconsistent" cues is cognitively disregarded (e.g. size C may not count for much if a person speak with a southern accent). My own thinking on this issue gravitates toward the second (cognitivist) school.
