Depends on what you mean by "left". Culturally speaking, the US has always featured a much more developed micropolitics, though this is starting to change. But in terms of social protections, labor law, electoral law, health insurance for all, pensions and state intervention in the economy, the EU makes the US look exactly like the decaying ex-metropole it indeed is. That's a fundamental geopolitical reality, which the US Left has got to grapple with.
