Hey Chas'n'Justin,

So what's the logic behind handing that little bloke a life sentence, then?

CB: I just heard about the case today, Rob. To me the whole U.S. trend of trying children as adults is evidence that our failure to move to socialism has resulted, after Red Rosa, in a descent to barbarism.

How the hell could they classify this as a murder, i.e. intentional killing ? It is evident that he was imitating wrestling and did not intend to kill. So, the only possibility is a negligent killing, which is manslaughter , which is not murder or life imprisonment. This logic would apply to an adult, although it might be said that an adult was grossly negligent or reckless, moving toward a murder equivalent. But this was a child. No way they he was competent to be reckless in the legal sense . This case is an outrage because it is not an exception these days.

Think you could report us to the UN or something, Rob.

I think my father said Jeb Bush the Governor might pardon him.

If his lawyers turned down a plea bargain with a three-year stretch hanging off it, they must have been very surprised by something in the ensuing proceedings. What was it?

I'm grateful for anything that brings the lunacy of American institutions to Australian eyes, of course. Might help to cool the passion with which we emulate you. But, having just watch the crying mother and child, I kinda hope there's an appeal mechanism by which this particular bout of wanton institutional cruelty might be undone ...

Cheers, Rob.
