Spaced Out (was Queries)

I first encountered "space" as a synonym for "market" or "market sector"
about three years ago, at a sales/marketing brouhaha sponsored by a
now-former exploiter.  I encountered it many times since, but always
referring to various computer hardware/software markets or market sectors.
Has anyone seen it applied to other goods/services?  ("ADM continues to
dominate the corn sweetner space...")
